Montana Travel Guides

Montana is perhaps best known for its natural beauty. The state is not just home to the stunning Glacier National Park, but also has a portion of Yellowstone National Park. The expansive landscapes throughout the state have led to the nickname “Big Sky Country.”

In my opinion, Glacier National Park is one of the most beautiful places across the United States. The park has incredible hiking trails and scenic drives that will lead you to views of mountains, glaciers, alpine lakes, forests and more. A trip here absolutely needs to be on your bucket list!

In addition to Glacier and the surrounding area, Missoula, Montana is another great city for outdoor recreation. Popular activities in Missoula include hiking, rafting and fishing.

You’ll probably spend some time in Bozeman if you’re visiting the NW portion of Yellowstone. Bozeman is known for skiing, along with other outdoor activities such as fishing and rock climbing.

If you enjoy outdoor recreation, Montana is a must. Learn about visiting Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks using my travel guides!

Tips for Visiting Glacier National Park

  • Reservations are required for some areas of Glacier during certain times of year. The exact requirements change each year.

  • Both black bears and grizzly bears live in Glacier National Park. While you’re hiking, it’s really important to carry bear spray in case you encounter one. If you don’t want to buy it, there are places where you can rent since you cannot bring it on an airplane.

  • Glacier is extremely popular! I recommend booking your hotels and rental cars early, especially if you’d like to stay inside the park.

  • Glacier National Park charges a fee to enter. It costs $35 per private vehicle for a week. If you’re visiting multiple national parks over the course of a year, it probably makes sense to purchase the America the Beautiful national park pass, which costs $80.

  • The Guide Along audio tour is a great way to learn about the park as you drive around! The tour costs $20 and is meant to play offline as you drive around. Or if you’re traveling to multiple national parks, you can save money with their bundles.
